About Us

For simplicity we wish to be known as Seva Singapore. A group of
people who function as a family to perform Seva.

Our activities will be carried out for the benefit of all interested Singapore residents irrespective of race, gender, religion, or nationality.

In the ancient Indian languages of Sanskrit and Tamil,              Seva (Sanskrit) or சேவை Sevai (Tamil) means – Selfless Service i.e working for the welfare of others in a selfless way . It is based on the ancient Indian/dharmic teaching of Vasudaiva Kudumbakam (the world is one family). 

Our objective is to apply this ancient and universal teaching of selfless social service here for the residents of Singapore.

Our Story

SEVA Singapore was conceived on the Hindu New Year day of Chitirai Thirunal- April 14th, 2018 by a group of people who came together  to celebrate the new year over a festive lunch. The idea of ensuring that the eternal Sanathana Dharma  teaching of SEVA should be spread more extensively in Singapore and ways to ensure its propagation to the next generation of Singaporeans was keenly discussed.

It was decided that an organisation should then take shape to give fruition to this vision. Subsequently SEVA International (Singapore) was registered as a non profit limited liability company on April 22nd 2018- World Earth Day. The founders whose names are shared in the Team section wanted to ensure that SEVA functioned not just as an ‘organisation’ but as a family similar to its origins when a group of families had gathered together to celebrate Hindu New Year.

Our Approach

SEVA Singapore will act similar to a thread in a pearl necklace i.e unite and link all the different pearls (organisations performing SEVA). In this way when a collection of pearls are united together in a necklace they shine brighter and are more inspiring. SEVA Singapore will also be one of the pearls in the necklace by performing SEVA activities which are very essential but which may not be performed in Singapore currently.
